@sharped All of the stuff that I personally like about podcasting often tends to be threatened by business moves from companies like Spotify (and seeking ways of injecting more advertising and expanding monetisation).

@sharped The vast majority of podcasters exist in the long tail, as it’s called, receiving little to no attention in any mainstream way. They’re passion projects that are often run by fans of niche topics.
@sharped You’ll find all of that stuff in Quirk’s (2016) source that I linked. 😀 There are various other options, such as donations on Patreon or direct sponsorship through membership schemes (common in tech podcasts that I listen to).
@sharped As a final thought, being free from traditional radio also lets a podcast me more ‘podcasty’. If done to the fullest extent—probably won’t be—you get links and show notes, custom chapter artwork and navigation… none of that in the show now from what I can see in my player.
@sharped Regarding ROI, I’d be blunt and say that a drive for profit just ruins what podcasting is all about. Sure, money can be made but the more we think about it that way, the more it turns into radio. Here’s a good source: towcenter.gitbooks.io/guide-to-podca…
@sharped The interesting thing is whether he will get editorial independence there, given that they’re a successful commercial player. The types of podcast that I listen to (and the networks to which they’re attached, if at all) are much smaller—made by friends.
@sharped Thanks for sharing this, David! Assuming that everything is accurate in the article, I don’t blame him for wanting to move. Podcasts are quite different from radio in how they’re produced, even if they sound alike, and I can understand that he wants editorial independence.
I believe this is for you, @andrewcanion. 😭 (Actually, it’s for all of us!) twitter.com/hotdogsladies/…
We’ve shared #HemisphericViews early to give you a light-hearted #podcast break from politics. We chat about crazy doorbells, share our current media picks and Jason makes CFO @andrewcanion nervous by suggesting that we give away our money. @BBowenBGSU Yes, they do trade-in for Macs: apple.com/shop/trade-in. That being said, I wouldn’t worry too much if you just bought one; you currently have the pinnacle of the Intel Mac generation, which has now been in place for 14 years.
@BBowenBGSU Intel has lagged in its development of chips, so for years Apple has been working on chips for its platforms. A lot of work has been leading up to this for the Mac, with massive potential changes in speed and power consumption. 😀 It was teased in June. zdnet.com/article/apple-…
@aeberbach I second this.
@andrewcanion @Unmade_FM Hahaha this is incredibly wholesome.
@_upgradefm You might have already received tweets about this for your most recent episode’s #Upstream segment (but anyway)… for your interest, the full James Bond collection is available for streaming (as far as I can see) in Australia on a service that we have, called Stan. t.co/K7jyku5EI…
@sharped I thought that it was great too! You’re probably right about how it works today…
😍 Grateful for this endorsement! twitter.com/pyrmont/status…
@andrewcanion I’ll happily listen! Which episode? (I just like Trevor’s enthusiasm in the clip.)
This is the best thing ever and I was cackling as we watched it last night on @ABCTV. twitter.com/GruenHQ/status…
@drneilfox @dariodoubleL Too kind! Both of you! 😀
@dariodoubleL @drneilfox I’m no Cinematologist, although I am enjoying the odd integration of more film chat into my own podcast recordings. Thanks for the inspiration! twitter.com/LoungeRuminato…
@PaulLev Ahhhh very interesting… so they could genuinely be like that and hold those opinions, however they might have known more than what is otherwise suggested. Thanks for sharing that!
