@ElenaTheNerd @BennyJParkinson You can’t escape capitalism… it will attach to anything. Here is a picture of an actual McDonald’s restaurant that’s built into the old city gate (‘Martinstor’) in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. Cultural and historical significance? Es macht nichts! t.co/QZ738xavq…

@ElenaTheNerd I see it as a part of the point that they are enhanced—physically superior to regular humans, in order to complete dangerous mining tasks off-world in low light. We see them as predatory but then understand the ironic twist that they’ve become more human than we are.

@jasmynconnell ^^^^^Excellent point… I think that we see the same thing even Western culture, with things like typography and minimalist design (think Bauhaus, the work of Dieter Rams, etc.). These things have a deeper meaning or purpose but they’re repackaged for convenient consumption.

@lizzy_bridges It’s great that someone like Ridley Scott was able to make something beautiful and cinematic out of this fear to reflect and comment on society. In Australia, people were just subjected to Pauline Hanson throughout the decade that followed.

09 Apr 2020

@jasmynconnell Yes, I think that you’re right too, it’s obviously a bit more complex. When I studied the film, it was emphasised that Westerners saw part of their dystopian future as being overrun by oriental culture. Frankly, I think that it looks cool and I welcome the hybrid style.

09 Apr 2020

@jasmynconnell It’s hilarious that this was an actual societal fear at the time… a takeover!

@BennyJParkinson @CL_Moore WINDOWS TO THE SOUL

09 Apr 2020

An excellent episode of @madashelltv last night, @shaunmicallef! By the way, check out this great practice of live-tweeting films that @CL_Moore does with his media class #BCM325—today, #BladeRunner! (By the way, I’m jealous every time that I see your Tyrell Corp chair on telly.) twitter.com/CL_Moore/statu…

09 Apr 2020

@ElenaTheNerd That’s great! Most people are unable (or just unwilling) to do that. I aimed for the same thing because like you, I could understand the value in what they were trying to teach.

09 Apr 2020

@ElenaTheNerd I like that you chose to do it on Blade Runner! Back when I was in Year 12—having already seen the film—I loved it when the whole class had to study it. Everyone else hated it purely because it was a school topic and I was heartbroken by the feeling in the room.

This wonderful piece sat in my RSS reader’s unread queue for a few days longer than it should have but I’m very glad that I got to it. twitter.com/KateMfD/status…

09 Apr 2020

@CL_Moore I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on it at the very least! 😀

09 Apr 2020

@CL_Moore Are you trying to distract me from my work?! 😱 I love this film too much. 😍

09 Apr 2020

The Keychron K1 mechanical #keyboard makes me very happy. With its clickiness, I can be heard across the house. 😂 t.co/y8mCk5ksw…

08 Apr 2020

I just read your blog post about using LinkedIn (from 29 March) and I couldn’t agree with you with more.

08 Apr 2020

@dlashworthjr @_upgradefm I love this show and second your tweet!

08 Apr 2020

@caseyliss @jellybeansoup Haha yes I find a lot of abbreviations and acronyms annoying and if they’re obscure governmental terms, that’s even worse. For example, I enjoy saying ‘Macca’s’, ‘dag’ (nerd/geek) and ‘loo’ (toilet) but am not a fan of ‘devo’ (devastated) and ‘youse’ (informal ‘you’ plural).

08 Apr 2020

@caseyliss @jellybeansoup Hahaha that was a deliberate Australian insertion for you to enjoy (or detest)… glad that it cut through!!! 🤣 The signs here all say ‘McDonald’s’ but in casual conversation, one would normally say, ‘Do you want anything from Macca’s?’. It feels more natural.

08 Apr 2020

@ramdent1827 @atpfm @siracusa @caseyliss @marcoarment This is really great, haha. I’m also pleased that the word was spelt as ‘through’ and not ‘thru’. Every single time that I see that on a Macca’s sign here in Australia, a part of me dies.

07 Apr 2020

@julia_zemiro Yes!!! Good on you… the arts are neglected enough, so let’s see some real effort and investment now.

07 Apr 2020

@gemmacorrell Certainly do! You captured the feeling perfectly in your illustration.

06 Apr 2020

@nicolasmagand I have subscribed to your RSS feed and look forward to checking out your stories. Have a great day. 🙂

06 Apr 2020

@nicolasmagand No need to apologise! You helped me; ABC didn’t. I appreciate your effort!

06 Apr 2020

@nicolasmagand @abcnews Ah I see! Thanks for looking through, Nicolas; I obviously didn’t try all of them. I may just add the world one, as ‘Just In’ pages would see me drown in a deluge of news, haha! Of course, as is the case in Australia, arts are ignored in favour of sport—no surprise there, really.

06 Apr 2020

@nicolasmagand @abcnews Thanks for the response, Nicolas! Were you able to add any of the topic feeds/pages, such as ‘Arts and Culture’ or only something like the main page (‘Just In’)? I tried doing what you described beforehand in NetNewsWire but nothing came up…
