@gruber You might have mentioned before on an episode or in a piece but did you have much exposure to (or experience with) NeXTStep at the time that it was out?

@gruber Yes, you’re absolutely correct; the author mentions SmallTalk as the object-oriented programming language that was developed by Kay and his team. It’s also acknowledged that SmallTalk was considered an ‘intermediate step’ in Xerox’s long-term strategy.
@gruber In my research, I found an interesting alternative take from 2002 on Apple’s and Microsoft’s contributions to personal computing and the popularisation of the GUI. I don’t entirely agree with it but there are some interesting points. twitter.com/LoungeRuminato…
Spring 1 (recomposed) by @maxrichtermusic is one of the most beautiful things that I’ve ever heard; I play it frequently. 🎼 music.apple.com/au/album/recom…
@gruber I thought so! Some enthusiastic marketing employee there apparently thought that it was worth some stickers. At least they weren’t stuck onto the computers themselves.
@gruber Where does this specific release rank in your list of most memorable operating system versions? 😜 feldnotes.com/2020/03/02/i-w…
@jamesthomson It is pretty funny; if you haven’t heard it before, increasingly nowadays recruitment is referred to as ‘talent acquisition’. That in itself makes sense but it sounds like you’re actually going out to get yourself some talent… perhaps for use on a stage! 😀
Check this out, @gruber: stickers on Windows PCs are the size of trackpads now. t.co/KttCdmBnj…
@Chundles Oh thank goodness.
@Chundles Do you leave a badge on your mail icon with a very high number of unread emails as well?
@keepinnotes Oh wow! Are you feeling OK now? You’re essentially half-machine… a cyborg.
I’ve really been enjoying these apps and felt the need to write about them. twitter.com/LoungeRuminato…
In this episode, I reflect on the influence of my two late grandfathers, why we fixate on possessions and how we remember people through objects and personal #narrative. twitter.com/LoungeRuminato…
@KateMfD @sharped @BenLang44 @BenjaminMillar @GivernyW I love that thing. It also reminds me of trips to the Robertson Fair and having to pull my grandfather away from locals as he gave lectures about our family history.
@GR36 Never in the past but yes, now that it’s easier with a service like Micro.blog…
@GR36 The definition of the ‘anti-fan’…
Funnily enough, this is exactly how I enjoy Vegemite on toast. If I ever order it as a quick breakfast from a café, I have to give explicit instructions not to use butter with it. I always receive strange looks😂 twitter.com/isobelroe/stat…
I’m happy to be described as ‘awesome’. Thanks, @GR36! twitter.com/GR36/status/12…
Starting a podcast is one of the most challenging and enjoyable things that I’ve ever done. twitter.com/LoungeRuminato…
@macgenie Ah that makes sense… all connected! Mouths are purely for eating!
Please, @YouTube, I beg you to fix your tvOS app. The AirPlay 2 support (e.g. with HomePod) is utterly woeful; it takes force-quitting and rerouting audio several times to function. No other video app on the platform does this. (All since your abandonment of standard tvOS UI)
Did you know this, @macgenie? Have you ever seen anything like this from your guinea pigs? twitter.com/qikipedia/stat…
@jamesthomson I’m glad that you shared this, as I always wonder how many people are affected in other countries. I live in Wollongong, Australia, but it always says my devices are in Darlinghurst (Sydney)— over 90 minutes away. Less techy users would surely be startled by something like this.
